Free Agents Raiders: Any Remaining NFL Players That Las Vegas Should Target?

The Las Vegas Raiders got off to a quiet, arguably underwhelming start to NFL free agency. However, that soon dissipated once general manager Dave Ziegler began to put his plans into motion. The acquisitions of Chandler Jones and Davante Adams had not only Raider Nation talking, but the football world as well. It’s plausible that the Raiders went from low-end playoff contenders to vying for a deep postseason run. Nevertheless, there’s still work to be done, and there are a handful of free agents that could still help for the right price.

Free Agents Raiders Need To Sign

Yes, we know the big names that are out there, but these players seem set on taking their time, so we shall see. We’re referring to Stephon Gilmore, who would become the best player in the secondary. Tyrann Mathieu, who is just enjoying time right now, would be a major pick-up, but again, we have to wait and see. On the other hand, the Raiders could be aggressive elsewhere with some other players that are still out there.

Raiders target No. 1 – Akiem Hicks, DT

The former Pro Bowler has dealt with injuries in two out of the last three seasons. That can be the cause of skepticism, but when he’s on, he’s on. The Raiders have reshuffled their defensive line’s interior and could still use a boost, so why not kick the tires on Hicks and roll the dice? Hicks would match up with Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones and be one of the most fearsome fronts in football. The money and where he is physically speaking could be reasons for the hesitation, but if he can be close to what he has been, then give it a shot.

Raiders target No. 2 – Duane Brown, OT

Yes, I know Brown is not a young star or entering his prime, but he is reliable and has been relatively healthy these last few years. Brown would bring experience and knowledge to this young line. He could be brought in as a stop-gap or one-year player as the Raiders were unable to acquire anyone of note in free agency along the offensive line. The Raiders appear to be in a win-now mode and this could be a player that helps that happen.

Raiders target No. 3 – Calais Campbell

Like Brown, Campbell isn’t a spring chicken, but his presence and leadership could help spell players and help be a light for a young team. With Campbell, a former Pro Bowler who has been a part of some good defenses, the Raiders could make a run.

Free Agents Raiders: What about Odell Beckham Jr. or Jadeveon Clowney?

Both of them, why not? Both players are similar in that they were both college stars with much hype and have been solid, but not earth-shattering players. Before getting hurt in the Super Bowl, Beckham seemed to be hitting his stride. Clowney would provide relief as he’d be an excellent rotational player at this juncture of his career with injuries causing him to slow down a bit. Adding quality depth could certainly mean the difference between a playoff appearance and an actual playoff run.
