The NFL’s Passing Leader Will Be Las Vegas Raiders QB Derek Carr

All eyes will be on Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr this upcoming season. Yes, it’s June, but Good Morning Football’s panel recently gave some bold predictions. Among those prognostications is that the Silver and Black’s signal-caller will lead the NFL in passing yards.

Derek Carr’s stats hint at a big year in 2022 for the Raiders

The Raiders did a notable job of surrounding Carr with a bevy of weapons going into the upcoming season. Hunter Renfrow is back, Darren Waller is still under contract, and the organization traded for his old college teammate and arguably the league’s best receiver, Davante Adams. While the offensive line has its share of question marks, the run game will also provide some protection now that an impressive positional group has been put together. So maybe it isn’t that much of a surprise that NFL Network anchor Will Selva believes Carr will be the NFL’s top passer in 2022.

“I believe Derek Carr will be the league’s leading passer. The reason why is that now he is with an offensive-minded head coach [in] Josh McDaniels. He is also going to have an instant rapport with Davante Adams.”

Interestingly enough, Carr’s previous head coach Jon Gruden was also offensively oriented in nature. In fact, Carr steadily each year under Gruden but the team lagged behind defensively. With McDaniels, Carr will now be under the tutelage of one of the best offensive play callers of this generation. His relationship with Adams is also instrumental and judging from recent offseason workouts, both are elated to be playing alongside each other again.

“Also, keep in mind he’s going to have Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller. He had the fifth-most passing yards in the NFL without Waller for six games.”

A complete and healthy roster will make all the difference for Carr in 2022. Especially if he’s going to lead the league in passing yards. Carr found himself near the top last year in that category for most of the season. That was despite the loss of his number one wide receiver, Henry Ruggs III. The formidable trio of Renfrow, Adams, and Waller is likely to give Carr the best chance he might have had in his career to earn the title of the league’s best passer.
