Whether you dislike or like the Las Vegas Raiders’ Derek Carr, there’s something all NFL fans should agree on; he is cold-blooded in crunch time. In fact, former teammate and All-Pro defensive tackle Gerald McCoy says so.
McCoy recently appeared on Colin Cowherd’s “The Herd” show on FS1. Cowherd, a well-known Carr supporter, gave the signal-caller his due as he led the Raiders to the playoffs in spite of the tumultuous events that rocked the team in 2021.
“[Carr] wasn’t better than I thought. I’ve always been a Derek Carr fan, and he’ll tell you that. I told him that from afar, and when I got there, I told him that. I’ve always thought he’s underrated. Anybody that knows me knows that I’ve always said he’s underrated.”
The Raiders’ Derek Carr has always been underrated says, Gerald McCoy.
McCoy brings up an interesting fact during the interview while stating that people are underrating the quarterback. Some Carr “haters” may not want to listen to this, but it’s a critical fact that makes him a top quarterback in the NFL today. According to CBS Sports, Carr has had 23 fourth-quarter comebacks since 2015, leading the list. Carr is at the top of an elite company. Matt Stafford (19), Ben Roethlisberger (18), Ryan Tannehill (18), and Russell Wilson (17) are the top four under Carr. Also, Carr has the most game-winning drives in the league with 29.
Although relevancy bias can play a part when you think of Carr (game-losing interception versus the Bengals), he also has an impressive number of games won on his last drives. If that doesn’t scream clutch, I don’t know what does.
“You don’t have that many fourth-quarter comebacks or game-winning drives without being special.”
This isn’t pushing “Carr Propaganda.” It’s just stating the facts and why McCoy’s argument is more than viable on why people should stop underrating him. As they say, men and women lie; numbers don’t.
