Raiders Notes: NFL Training Camp, Trade Scenarios, and Colin Kaepernick

In our latest edition of Raiders Notes, we catch you up on everything going on with your favorite team. The Raiders have been in the headlines quite a bit following the buzz surrounding Ndamukong Suh, but that has since died down. Regardless, let’s get you up to speed.

Dates for Raiders training camp have been released

NFL Communications released dates for the Raiders and their training camp. The team’s rookies will begin reporting on July 17th. Meanwhile, the veterans will report on the 20th. This year’s training camp will once again take place at the Intermountain Healthcare Performance Center in Henderson. With players currently enjoying their offseason break, fans eagerly await training camp as it marks the nearing of the season. The Raiders are scheduled to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Canton, Ohio for the Pro Football Hall of Fame game. A matchup that marks the start of the preseason for the Raiders.

Raiders notes: Will Las Vegas make a trade this offseason?

This offseason has been filled with much conjecture in regard to the Raiders roster. Despite being linked to several players, very few major moves were executed by the team’s brain trust post-Davante Adams. Most recently, there are a couple of trade scenarios getting thrown around. The first one is surrounding Foster Moreau. The tight end is expected to compete for playing time in Josh McDaniels’ offense but it’s possible he carries trade value. As Ian Wharton of Bleacher Report stated, it might be smart to move Moreau now. Wharton believes a familiar suitor would be in play.

“Going back to the Raiders could be fruitful for Green Bay. Backup tight end Foster Moreau will be a free agent after 2022, and he’s stuck behind All-Pro candidate Darren Waller. Moreau had a career-high 30 receptions for 373 yards last year and has 10 touchdowns in his three seasons. The Raiders would likely prefer to keep Moreau in Josh McDaniels’ offense, so a third-round pick would be the sweetener to land him.”

Should Las Vegas trade Clelin Ferrell?

Moving Moreau would make sense from a value point of view but considering McDaniels will run a lot of two-tight end sets, moving Moreau could be counterproductive. So, what about Clelin Ferrell? The former first round pick let it out earlier this offseason that he was making a move to outside linebacker under Patrick Graham. The problem might be that Ferrell could end up seeing his snaps dwindle. The Raiders acquired Chandler Jones this offseason, and from a pass-rushing perspective, Ferrell has consistently disappointed. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently threw out a scenario involving Ferrell and the New England Patriots.

“While the Raiders may have to change Ferrell’s position to get him on the field, the New England Patriots could use him on the edge. New England doesn’t have a clear-cut complement to linebacker Matt Judon, who accounted for 12.5 of the team’s 36 sacks in 2021. Ferrell would be a bit of a project, but Patriots coach Bill Belichick has long been keen on picking up other teams’ castoffs—Randy Moss, LeGarrette Blount and Danny Shelton are just a few examples.”

It’s a good point. Ferrell could certainly see more playing time with the Patriots, but would Bill Belichick realistically give up anything of value for a player that’s essentially been a bust? Doubtful.

Raiders notes: More news surrounding Colin Kaepernick

A subject that’s been a sore one for Raider Nation is Colin Kaepernick. Sometimes, his mere mention sparks up debates and, sometimes, heated personal battles between fans. Former Raiders defensive tackle Warren Sapp recently dropped a tidbit on Kap. The former quarterback had a workout with the Raiders this offseason, which drew national attention. Speaking on YouTube channel Vlad TV, Sapp shared the following.

“I heard it was a disaster. I heard one of the worst workouts ever. I’m wondering how the hell this happened and the tape didn’t get out, right? I mean, somebody wasn’t over the fence or nothing. Come on, man.”

Well, judging from Sapp’s comments, Raiders fans won’t have to worry about Kaepernick joining the Raiders anytime soon.
