If there was ever a season when Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr had a legitimate shot at winning the league’s prized award, it’s this year. In fact, at least one gambler believes it and is willing to put his money where his mouth is.
According to Caesars Sportsbook, one better in Arizona has dropped $1,000 with odds of +3500, which means if Carr wins, they’ll win $35,000. Going into this season, Carr will have arguably the best offensive cast of his career. The Raiders traded for his best friend and college teammate, Davante Adams. The superstar receiver joins an offensive group that already features Hunter Renfrow, Hunter Renfrow, and Josh Jacobs. Both the potential and expectations for this squad are at an all-time high following a playoff berth last season.

How did fans react to this Derek Carr wager?
Raiders fans have often been at odds when it comes to Carr. He’s easily the most polarizing player in team history, but as training camp inches closer, anything less than another playoff trip will be a failure. As far as the reaction to this wager goes, fans on Twitter had plenty to say.
Come on man I’d take that bet DC4MVP

Honestly this is a really sharp bet. I would make the same bet if I wasn’t fully convinced that Herbert is winning all of the awards this season.

Biggest waste of $1,000 honestly. Lol.

What are other publications saying about these odds?
While the bettor went off of Caesars Sportsbook, other publications were giving slightly different odds. According to Sharp Football Analysis, Carr currently has +2500 odds of winning the NFL MVP award. On the other hand, Covers has Carr listed at 2800+ as of July 7th.
The fact is, Carr has a real chance of walking away with the hardware this season, if 2021 was any indication. Carr has consistently been one of the most accurate passers in the NFL. He had 4,804 passing yards last season (fifth best), which had him end the year as one of the top signal-callers in the league. If you plug in Adams and everyone stays healthy, one smart gambler in Arizona will be cashing in in 2023.
