Raiders QB Derek Carr Isn’t Going Anywhere Says Local Beat Writer

The Las Vegas Raiders are reeling after a losing streak that sits at three. At the head of a 2-7 record sit the Raiders’ besieged head coach Josh McDaniels and his quarterback, Derek Carr. No. 4 is no stranger to adversity, but 2022 is proving to be especially difficult. Will he overcome all of this and return next season?

Local beat writer Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal recently weighed in. Essentially, Bonsignore gave an emphatic “yes” when asked on Twitter if Carr would be back next year. Obviously, no one knows what the team’s brass has in store for next year. Certainly not the local media, which has been wrong on many occasions. This current duo of McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler keeps things quiet.

Despite receiving a new contract this past offseason, Carr essentially signed a one-year deal. We say that because the Raiders could walk away from Carr under this current deal, though the team would receive a dead cap hit of upwards of $5.6 million. Then there’s the possibility the team could trade Carr after this season, though you also have to contend with the fact that the quarterback has said he’ll retire before suiting up for anyone else.

Lots of things can happen between now and January, but the Raiders have to take care of business against the Denver Broncos this weekend.
