In case you haven’t noticed, the Las Vegas Raiders’ quarterback room will be vastly different than last year’s following a surprising cut.
At one point, it seemed as though Derek Carr would play out his career with the Silver and Black. Along with the fact that No. 4 was the record holder for several passing feats, his position had been largely unquestioned through a multitude of coaching changes. However, once Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler came into town, nothing would be the same. Carr is now long gone, and the current batch of Raiders quarterbacks is, if nothing else, unique. Yeah, that’s putting a nice touch on it, but how else can you word it at this point?
In case you forgot, the Raider Ramble did successfully predict part of the Raiders’ quarterback room for 2023.

One out of four isn’t bad, right?
Who’s in and who’s out for the Raiders already?
On Tuesday, with training camp underway after veterans reported to Henderson this week, the quarterback position was already trimmed. Chase Garbers, the former Cal product, was cut. A known favorite of our colleague at Bleacher Report, Maurice Moton, was simply the odd man out. McDaniels really has the “right” combination when it comes down to it. He’s got a proven, system quarterback that’s won wherever he goes in Jimmy Garoppolo. Then, you add in a grizzled veteran in Brian Hoyer who’s also familiar with the offensive scheme. On top of that, you have Aidan O’Connell, a heralded prospect; some have even referred to him as a “steal” from this year’s draft.
Garbers simply didn’t fit anywhere in that combination. O’Connell is, for all intents and purposes, the future of the Raiders. Garoppolo, if healthy, is more than serviceable and when taking into account the level of talent at key positions (wide receiver and running back), McDaniels will have the “driver” he longed for last season. As far as Garbers’ future, it’s possible he’ll land on a team somewhere soon, though his prospects of starting an NFL game day are relatively low.
What say you, Raider Nation? How do you feel about this trio heading into the preseason?
