Raiders WR Davante Adams

Raiders Notes: (Sigh) Davante Adams Trade Scenarios; Tank For Caleb Williams?

The Las Vegas Raiders’ 2023 NFL season is only three weeks old, and the Davante Adams trade chatter has already begun. Wow, that happened quickly, didn’t it?

After a 1-2 start and a head-scratching 23-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday, the Silver and Black are at a crossroads. The question now is, will the Raiders figure it out, or is it time to begin taking calls on Adams and who will be in the mix?

Furthermore, Adams vented some frustration postgame, which has led to plenty of reactions. FOX Sports’ Dave Helman is among the many NFL pundits weighing in on the veteran’s future.

Let’s not waste time and jump into the latest news surrounding the Raiders’ star wide receiver.

If the Raiders were to trade Davante Adams, who would be in?

Should Las Vegas drop the game against the Los Angeles Chargers, the trade rumor mill involving Adams will hit into overdrive. Opposing NFL teams will circle the 1-3 Raiders to see what pieces they can pry away, including the 30-year-old receiver.

Fanbuzz’s senior NFL insider, Matt Lombardo, recently wrote a piece outlining six possible destinations for the veteran. The NFL trade deadline is on Oct. 31, so general manager David Ziegler must decide what to do in the next few weeks.

So, who are the six teams that could put in a trade offer for Adams? Lombardo writes that the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and San Francisco 49ers are all possible landing spots for Adams.

A couple of teams are head-scratchers, such as the Bengals, since they already have a trio of Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd. Furthermore, would Adams want to return to Green Bay without Aaron Rodgers to greet him?

Others do make sense, such as the Lions. Adams would be their bona fide No. 1 receiver (unless you’re a big Amon-Ra St. Brown fan) on a team looking to push for a playoff spot. Plus, it would see him return to the NFC North. Meanwhile, the Cowboys could use a running mate alongside CeeDee Lamb.

The salaries and trade assets must match up to satisfy all parties involved. Still, is there a possible trade prospect that intrigues you Raiders fans? Or do you think the team will beat the Chargers to climb back to 2-2, and all this trade gossip will simmer down? Let us know.

Dave Helman: Not feeling good about the Raiders-Davante Adams situation…

Adams stated in his postgame scrum with the media that he doesn’t have time to wait around, which is true. The six-time Pro Bowler is in the latter stages of his prime years, so he needs to make the most of these next few years.

Where exactly is the Raiders star going with his comments? He’s going into a situation that Helman doesn’t see as having a positive ending.

“Awfully early to hear somebody talk like that after three games, two losses,” Dave Helman said on the NFL on FOX Pod. “Now, I don’t have a great feeling about where things are going for the Raiders, but it hasn’t happened yet. Typically, this is the type of stuff you hear when a team is two, three, four, [or] five games below .500”

“I just think it’s interesting that we’re not here at the end of September yet. We’re not even in October, and this is what’s coming out of a Raiders loss to Pittsburgh. I don’t want to put any words in Davante Adams’ mouth, but if you read these comments on social media, you hear the chatter around it. It doesn’t sound like a guy who’s going to want to hang around if things really go south for the Raiders.”

The next few weeks leading into the trade deadline will be interesting to follow. Does Raiders management decide to pull the plug on Adams’ tenure less than two seasons into his time with Las Vegas? If the Silver and Black want to get into the Caleb Williams race, then moving off Adams and securing future assets for a potential rebuild could be ideal.
