Raiders Notes, Hunter Renfrow

Hunter Renfrow The Odd Man Out If Raiders Are Trying To Add A Pass Rusher?

The Las Vegas Raiders have reportedly been in talks about trying to acquire some pass-rushing help recently; is Hunter Renfrow on his way out after all?

Raiders fans are fully aware of the putrid pass rush that haunts the Silver and Black. Despite Maxx Crosby becoming a star in the NFL, he alone can’t do it all. So far, general manager Dave Ziegler has been unable to find No. 98 any sort of consistent help. Chandler Jones is now gone following a heavily publicized debacle that included his arrest. Tyree Wilson has shown an occasional flash but is still raw, nowhere near the impact that the Raiders need. So, will Ziegler pull the trigger on a deal this season?

Would the Raiders trade fan favorite Hunter Renfrow?

According to a report by Dianna Russini of The Athletic, inquiries have been made by the Raiders since Chandler’s release. “They are looking for a player-for-player swap and may not want to give up too much,” said Russini. The obvious thing that stands out is the notion that you wouldn’t want to give up too much, i.e., draft capital. Renfrow’s name naturally comes to mind. Let’s face it, he’s completely disappeared as Jimmy Garoppolo heavily favors Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers to the point that you forget Renfrow was once a Pro Bowl wideout. Still, these things happen.

Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report has been saying since June that shipping off Renfrow for some defensive help would make sense. As we near Week 5 for the Raiders, such a trade might seem inevitable.

The only downside is that Renfrow’s underutilization has no doubt hurt his value. If we’re being honest, how much impactful help can the Raiders really get for Hunter Renfrow at this point? More so if Ziegler and Co. won’t entertain involving picks, which has not been said by the organization; rather, we’re making the assumption based on Russini’s report.
