So, was Josh McDaniels holding back the Las Vegas Raiders offense? In their first game since firing their former head coach, the Silver and Black scored more than 21 points. Furthermore, they even crossed into the 30s with their 30-6 win over the New York Giants on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium. On that note, star wideout Davante Adams has been vocal this season over the team’s offense.
The 30-year-old didn’t have his best game, statistically. However, Adams noted that the Las Vegas offense is moving in the right direction despite his performance in the win against New York.
Davante Adams: Raiders offense ‘looked like it’s supposed to’ versus Giants
Adams noted that the offense wasn’t perfect despite the win, which he’s correct. No Raiders wide receiver was close to 100 receiving yards. However, the veteran praised their ability to run the football, something the squad has struggled to do despite having Josh Jacobs.
Jacobs didn’t get 100 rushing yards or more; the current NFL rushing champ did have two touchdowns. Additionally, he did 98 rushing yards, and that’s the closest he’s ever been this season to crossing that triple-digit mark.
Even though the passing game isn’t where it needs to be, Adams likely knows the team needs to acknowledge the small victories.
“It’s about how it looks, and it looked like it’s supposed to look out there,” Adams told reporters (h/t ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez). “We weren’t perfect by any means, but we were able to run the ball and do things that we set out to do since I’ve been here, and one way or the other, we figured it out. So, I’m not concerned with that.”
Davante Adams still wants to catch more footballs…
The six-time Pro Bowler is being a team player with his remarks over the offense. Nonetheless, Adams does want to boost his production, and rightfully so. The Raiders have arguably the best player in his position. As a result, the coaching staff needs to figure out how to get him the football.
However, Adams knows that it’s not all about him. The three-time All-Pro receiver can read the room and understands this was Jacob’s breakout game. So, he wasn’t going to take the shine away from his teammate’s progress.
“Like I said, all that other stuff will take care of itself,” Adams added. “But do I want to catch more balls? Of course. Why would I not? But, I mean, at the end of the day, like I told you before, this isn’t about me; this is about the team, and my whole desire to catch more balls is to turn 30 [points] into 40 or 50. I mean, that’s why it’s for the team, so I’m good with it.”
Adams and Co. will have a challenging opponent for “Sunday Night Football” against the New York Jets. While their offense is suspect after the Achilles injury to Aaron Rodgers in Week 1, their defense is legit. It will be interesting to see if the Raiders can replicate this weekend’s success against the Jets with Josh McDaniels now a distant memory.
