If reports are true that both owner Mark Davis and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh have “a good relationship,” it’ll certainly play a factor in the Las Vegas Raiders‘ future. We know Davis likes to surround himself with people with whom he’s familiar. Let’s face it, when he went outside and took a chance on the “Patriot Way,” it didn’t work out.
Jim Harbaugh: The Raiders story that keeps on giving…
There’s definitely a pattern that people should be paying attention to. There’s lots of football left to be played, but the long-term future of the Raiders is at stake simultaneously. This isn’t a knock on interim coach Antonio Pierce, but it’s interesting that the names associated with the Silver and Black at the moment are retreads. Think about it, people. Jon Gruden, David Shaw, Rich Bisaccia, and, of course, Harbaugh. Going with an unfamiliar face is something that’d be shocking from Davis right now—that’s just an opinion, obviously.
What’s not an opinion, reportedly, is that Davis and Harbaugh already have an established relationship. If that’s the case, you have to imagine it gives Harbaugh that much more credibility and stroke—Mark Davis always wants a big, splashy hire who’s bigger than Jim other than Gruden, right?
Would Mark Davis let one person call all the shots again?
According to “NFL insider,” Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, Harbaugh’s in play for Davis and the Raiders.
“Our sources say Jim Harbaugh and Mark Davis have had a very good relationship for a while now, and the Raiders would be a natural fit, but several factors come into play.”
What’s even more interesting is that Pauline mentions that interim general manager Champ Kelly really has made inroads within the Raiders. If that’s the case, how would that work in a scenario involving Harbaugh?
As far as Pauline, he’s not the first name you think of when reading about league insiders. The fact is, there’s been a lot of dubious information making its way around social media lately. Still, when looking at the situation objectively, it’s impossible to dismiss Harbaugh as not a possibility. This will be something that isn’t going away anytime soon.
