Davante Adams to Jets? Reporter Suggests New York Should Pass On Raiders WR

The New York Jets are everyone’s destination choice for Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams. A move to the Big Apple would allow him to reunite with Aaron Rodgers. However, SNY reporter Connor Hughes believes the Jets should avoid Adams.

After a second straight NFL season without the playoffs, there’s speculation that the veteran receiver could ask for a trade. Before head coach Josh McDaniels was fired, Adams’ name circulated in the rumor mill. Nonetheless, those rumors went away after Antonio Pierce assumed the role of interim head coach.

Will the Jets Avoid Davante Adams?

New York likely knows they only have Rodgers for a limited time, so the Jets need to make the most of his time under center. The Jets lost the veteran quarterback to a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 1, so possibly going after Adams would be the perfect target for Rodgers and a compliment for Garrett Wilson.

Nonetheless, Hughes believes New York should pursue someone younger rather than give up draft picks for a receiver who’s exiting the prime years of his career.

“We all know the Jets are going to go out there and try to add a big playmaker this offseason to pair with Garrett Wilson,” Hughes said on “Jets Class.” “The two names that we’ve talked over and over and over about it has been Davante Adams if the Raiders decide to make him available via trade, or Mike Evans if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers let him walk out the doors.

“There’s a third option that I actually like a little bit more than the other two. No matter how much the front office loves Evans or how much Aaron Rodgers loves Adams, and that is Bengals wideout Tee Higgins. He is significantly younger than those other two guys. He’s only 24. He’s been wildly productive as the No. 2 and No. 3 option in Cincinnati.”

What could the Raiders receive for their star wide receiver?

Bleacher Report recently wrote about what New York could offer in a hypothetical Adams trade. The outlet notes that the Jets could send a 2024 third-round pick, and a 2025 second-round pick should be enough to get Adams out of Las Vegas.

All this speculation could be for nothing if the Silver and Black decide to keep Pierce as their permanent head coach or if the Raiders land a quarterback that can consistently get Adams and the rest of the offense going.

It will be interesting to see if a quarterback like Justin Fields is enough for Adams to buy into what the Raiders are building. Let’s not forget that the former Green Bay Packers star did come to play with Derek Carr and that quickly dissolved. As a result, he might have other plans for how he wants the latter stages of his career to end.
