While the Las Vegas Raiders and owner Mark Davis are doing their due diligence, it appears all roads lead to Antonio Pierce as the next head coach. Well, according to one “insider,” at least.
One look at social media, and you’ll notice the unwavering support (by some) for the team’s interim coach. While Pierce did lead the Raiders to a 5-4 record in his stead, the calls for the next head coach aren’t unanimous. Some still believe Jim Harbaugh should be the choice. Well, that’s if he’s indeed interested, which no one knows.
However, it’s possible that the job was Pierce’s all along, depending on how you’re looking at things.
The fact is, Pierce rallied the locker room after the team flatlined bad enough that Davis had to jettison Josh McDaniels. The support from star players such as Maxx Crosby is so loud right now that Davis might be in a precarious situation. What does he do if he goes with anyone not named Antonio Pierce? Still, the belief that both Pierce and interim general manager Champ Kelly will be hired when the dust settles is a strong one. According to SI’s Hondo Carpenter, many within the organization are in agreement with that sentiment.
“I’m pushing with the narrative that’s inside the franchise, and it’s ‘We want AP, and we want Champ’, and that’s what I’m hearing that they are going to get.”
“Reports” are favoring Antonio Pierce…
As most Raiders fans are aware, ESPN reported over the weekend that Pierce was indeed the frontrunner. However, things can change at any time. Let’s face it, this is Mark Davis we’re talking about. Even still, it’s also worth noting that The Athletic’s Vic Tafur sent out an ambiguous message via X (Twitter) on Sunday.
Are we getting some big news this week?
