Did Las Vegas Raiders interim coach Antonio Pierce already reveal the secret, whether intentionally or not?
This has been one of the most impatient offseasons for Raiders fans, and it is only mid-January. With so much momentum generated at the end of the season for the Raiders, it’s only natural that fans want that to continue. In order for that to continue, Antonio Pierce would have to be retained as head coach—in theory, of course.
Is Antonio Pierce set to take the Raiders job?
Whether you’re pulling “Coach AP” or not, it does seem he’s the frontrunner. Insider reports certainly indicate that is indeed the truth. Still, there’s a process that must be adhered to. Let’s not forget that rules are rules. That’s especially true in terms of interviews for not only the head coach position but also that of general manager. The latter being key as it has become the established notion that Raiders owner Mark Davis would fill the managerial opening first.
While attending a Martin Luther King Jr. parade out in Las Vegas, Nevada, it would appear that Pierce might’ve said a little bit too much.
“It’s a dream. I don’t want to pinch myself until it becomes official.” (h/t KTNV)
If Pierce is indeed the guy, we could possibly hear an official announcement this week. Hypothetically speaking, if true, there would still be much work to do if you’re the Raiders. Once Pierce’s announcement is made, the focus shifts to filling the staff, particularly the offensive and defensive coordinator roles.
There are already plenty of rumors circling the back pages of the internet. For the offense, we’re hearing Kliff Kingsbury’s names, thanks to Colin Cowherd. On the opposite side of the ball, the Raiders blocked an interview request attached to Patrick Graham’s name recently. It would appear that the next head coach will decide Graham’s fate.
Business is about to pick up this week.
