Raiders News: Justin Fields, Luke Getsy, and more.

A Second Round Pick To Reunite Justin Fields With Raiders OC Luke Getsy?

The Las Vegas Raiders need a quarterback to compete with Aidan O’Connell; that’s not breaking news by any means. Be that as it may, the debate on who that signal-caller should be is a hot one.

One such scenario involves reuniting new Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy with his former quarterback and 2021’s No. 11 overall pick, Justin Fields.

The future Raiders duo?

As most Raiders fans are aware, Fields was largely a disappointment in Chicago, never living up to expectations. Nevertheless, a closer look would reveal that not all of it was entirely his fault, as is the case with any underperforming quarterback. What’s interesting is the possibility of a reunion between Fields and Getsy, especially considering their histories. To Getsy’s credit, he’s had nothing but positive things to say about Fields, so maybe it’s not too farfetched—both men are professionals after all.

In terms of what a reunion would cost the Raiders, ESPN’s Dan Graziano stated recently that a second-round pick seems unlikely. Free agency outcomes could significantly impact Fields’ expected return, favoring the Raiders.

“It’s an odd offseason in which the supply at the quarterback position seems to be higher relative to the demand than usual, which works in favor of the teams who are looking for quarterbacks and likely drives the price down in these kinds of trade talks.”

Another factor that might affect Fields’ value is the Jacksonville Jaguars’ trade for Mac Jones. The New England Patriots will be receiving a late-round pick, potentially a sixth-rounder, according to Adam Schefter.

It might come down to how highly the Raiders think of Fields: is he a starter or someone who needs to prove himself? Either way, this is all going to be fascinating to watch unfold. The impeding Kirk Cousins contract, coupled with whoever picks up Russell Wilson, will have a significant impact. Of course, this will all be for naught if the Raiders make a trade. In other words, if you ask fans, they seem to want Jayden Daniels, not Fields.
