For those Las Vegas Raiders fans who were hoping Deion Sanders could be headed to Sin City, maybe we should pump the brakes on that notion.
Much like his son, Shedeur Sanders, Coach Prime is a divisive topic among Raider Nation. There are numerous reasons for this, some directly related to football and others rooted in other factors (which we won’t be touching here). What’s undeniable is that both members of the Sanders family have turned the football program at Colorado into a relevant function. With Shedeur’s impending transition to the NFL, many folks wondered if his father, the Pro Football Hall of Famer, would follow suit.
This Raiders offseason has been one for the ages…
The Raiders have undergone numerous organizational changes this offseason. Following a disastrous first season, the Raiders relieved Antonio Pierce of his duties as head coach. The campaign culminated in an unprecedented 10-game losing run. Moreover, the team let go general manager Tom Telesco. All those moves undoubtedly reflect the influence of minority owner Tom Brady, with No. 12 primarily focused on achieving success.
Given the coaching environment, offering candidates the additional benefit of participating in the selection of a new general manager enhances the attractiveness of the job. Clearly, the decision was not personal; rather, it was a strategic move to reorganize and establish a fresh start. Rumors immediately surrounded Sanders, a prominent figure in his own right. Well, The Athletic recently shot down that conjecture, adding that a league source doesn’t believe the Raiders have any interest in the elder Sanders.
“There’s been some buzz about University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, but the Raiders have “zero interest” in hiring him, according to a league source. Agents using the stubbornly quiet Raiders for leverage goes as far back as the franchise’s losing.”
We’re going to see a lot of names associated with the Raiders over the next few days. While some names are obvious choices, others remain intriguing. Let’s see what ends up happening with Sanders—crazier things have happened in the NFL.
