An intriguing development that’s gained more traction with the NFL draft behind us is that of Las Vegas Raiders star Christian Wilkins. Is there cause for concern?
As last offseason’s prized acquisition, Wilkins delivered when he was on the field. Regrettably, his season was relatively short due to injury. So naturally, Raiders fans were left wanting more. With offseason activities in full focus, Wilkins’ health is taking center stage.
Tony Pauline who covers the NFL, has seen name circulate regarding the Wilkins conversation. He previously doubled-down on his reporting that there are concerns surrounding the defensive tackle. Particularly, he mentioned the dreaded word “surgery” but also added that the Raiders drafting players of Wilkins’ position is further evidence of the concern.
Well, a certain person familiar with the Raiders on the ground has disputed this.
Sports Illustrated’s Hondo Carpenter cleared the air this week. As far as he sees it, the Raiders are not worried about Wilkins’ health (as of right now).
“Talking to people within the organization, there isn’t any fear or concern or anything. Nobody’s even confirmed he needs a second surgery. But if they did, there’s literally no concern. I am telling you, nobody I’m talking to at this point is remotely worried. Now, if it gets to that, I’ll tell you.”
Some fans will surely breathe a sigh of relief given the affinity that many within Raider Nation have for “Uncle Hondo.” Still, this is a situation that’ll likely not go away anytime soon, at least not until training camp.
