The AFC West welcomed talent in bunches through the 2025 NFL Draft. In rounds 1 and 2, the Chiefs welcomed offensive tackle Josh Simmons and pass-rush specialist defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott. The Broncos selected physical cornerback Jahdae Barron in Round 1, then grabbed running back R.J. Harvey in Round 2; the projected starting running back in Denver. As for the Raiders, Boise State star runner Ashton Jeanty and TCU receiver Jack Bech were their Day 1 and Day 2 additions. And the Chargers get to see all of these additions up close.
All within the first three weeks of the 2025 NFL season.
For the Chargers, their season kicks off with a Week 1 contest against Kansas City. This will be an international game, taking place in Brazil on Friday night. Week 2 sends Jim Harbaugh’s crew to Las Vegas to face the Silver and Black on Monday Night Football before Week 3 welcomes Bo Nix and company back in Los Angeles.
Three straight weeks, three straight battles. Talk about a wild start to the season.
In the meantime, the Chargers themselves utilized the first two rounds in April’s draft, grabbing two exciting players who instantly help their offense. University of North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton, widely touted as the draft’s ‘second-best’ tailback behind his now-division rival Jeanty, and Ole Miss receiver Tre Harris. The duo will be tested early with this stretch of schedule.
For Los Angeles’ AFC West team, the mission remains the same: start hot, end strong. That’s what got the Chargers to the postseason in 2024, and if it’s replicated in 2025, expect similar results.
The first three weeks of the season, each against their rivals, will be the first test in that regard.
