The Las Vegas Raiders are quietly building something that finally looks… intentional.
Klint Kubiak hasn’t tried to win the offseason with flashy headlines. He’s building the foundation first. Mike McCoy was reportedly the first coach added, and that tells you what the priority is: experience, stability, and someone who’s been in big rooms before. McCoy has coached for a long time, and he also has real ties to both Klint and Gary Kubiak. In a rebuild, that kind of familiarity can help a staff move faster and avoid wasted time.
On defense, the Raiders went with a mix of continuity and a fresh voice. They promoted Rob Leonard to defensive coordinator and retained Joe Woods as defensive pass game coordinator. Put simply, they kept pieces that know the roster but handed the keys to a new play-caller who has earned trust inside the building. Leonard’s promotion also sends a message: this staff is going to value teaching and development, not just the biggest name on the market.
Special teams also get a reset with Joe DeCamillis, a proven coordinator the Raiders hope can clean up hidden-yardage mistakes that have quietly tilted games.
And don’t sleep on Ronell Williams as linebackers coach. He’s a young climber who earned his way from Division III to the NFL, then leveled up in Chicago before landing in Philadelphia. That background screams detail work, development and standards.
Now comes the hard part: building a roster that actually matches the staff’s vision. The Raiders have a long way to go—but for once, the coaching blueprint looks like a real starting point, not a patch job.
