Las Vegas Raiders GM John Spytek: NFL Draft1st Round Scenarios

Raiders, John Spytek playing the long game at receiver

Second-year general manager John Spytek is taking a patient, calculated approach to fixing the Las Vegas Raiders’ receiver room—betting that discipline now will deliver long-term impact.

Just because the Raiders have been quiet at wide receiver this offseason does not mean their receiver room is a disaster. It just means they have not panicked. There is a difference.

Look at what they actually have. Jalen Nailor caught 62 passes for 892 yards and seven touchdowns in 2024. That is a real contributor, not a placeholder. Dont’e Thornton is the kind of burner that forces defenses to respect the deep ball every single play. Jack Bech showed enough in his rookie season to believe there is more coming. Tre Tucker adds a spark in the slot and changes games on special teams. Is this group going to scare anyone on paper? No. But it is more functional than it is getting credit for.

As for Jauan Jennings, the fit makes sense on the surface but the expectations need to stay reasonable. His production dipped to 643 yards in 2025, injuries or not, and he was built for a very specific offense in San Francisco. Dropping him into a Raiders offense that is still taking shape under Klint Kubiak and hoping for his best is not a guarantee.

The bigger point is simple. The Raiders are not done building. John Spytek has been methodical, not passive. Las Vegas has the money and the draft picks to keep adding, and nothing about this offseason suggests Spytek is comfortable handing Fernando Mendoza a half-finished roster and calling it a day.
