Another One Bites The Dust? Four Raiders Who Might Not Be Back In ’19

Raiders head coach Jon Gruden appears to be tongue in cheek serious about his comments in getting the Raiders back to their 1998 offense. A key to Oakland’s offense the last few years has been wide receiver Michael Crabtree, however, he has moved on and the team has added Jordy Nelson and Martavis Bryant. Also new to the team is tight end Derrick Carrier as well as Doug Martin and Keith Smith to the backfield.

The new changes are strikingly similar to the 1970’s George Allen led Washington Redskins and their “Over-the-Hill-Gang.” With an aging team and contracts also playing a factor for others, certain players may not be around beyond the 2018 season.

Raiders: Longshot Lamur? Not so fast…

Lamur has a little bit of an edge. It was during the Cincinnati Bengals’ 2014 campaign Lamur, an undrafted free agent in 2012, seized the weakside linebacker starting spot for Guenther’s defense and produced a career year (92 total tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass deflections). Using his unique blend of size and speed, Lamur was the most disruptive front seven defender against the pass.

Quick Slants: Raiders HC Jon Gruden delivers wake-up call to Obi

It wasn’t difficult to surmise what that scowl on Jon Gruden’s face meant when he was asked about the readiness of Obi Melifonwu. “It doesn’t look close at all,” the Oakland Raiders head coach said about the second-year safety, “I’ll leave it at that. He doesn’t look close to me at all.” Raiders HC Jon …

Ramble 101: The Sea of Highlights

December 21, 1974 – The Oakland Raiders were facing the Miami Dolphins in the AFC Divisional game. The game was a back and forth contest that you would expect and hope to see in a playoff game. The Dolphins opened by running the kickoff back for a touchdown. Things were looking bleak for the Raiders early in the game but after a Ken Stabler interception to Dolphins defensive back Dick Anderson, Miami would take a hit in their secondary, when safety Jake Scott went out of the game with an injury. The defense did their job and forced Miami to punt. Stabler redeemed himself shortly after with a touchdown pass to Charlie Smith. That touchdown tied the game.

Steady Eddy: Don’t discount undrafted kicker Piñeiro

Battling academic issues is hard enough for student athletes. Top that with a switch in schools and an abrupt swap from futbol to football, those life-altering events scuttle many dreams and hopes. Not Eddy Piñeiro. The Miami native oozes the kayfabe machismo Razor Ramon sported and rose to the occasion. The big leg and swagger …
