Las Vegas Raiders: 5 Positive Signs Heading Into Week 2 vs. The Bills, Jakobi Meyers, Jimmy Garoppolo

Jakobi Meyers Missed Jimmy Garoppolo In Week 4; Will Raiders Passing Game Struggle vs. Packers?

Jakobi Meyers has been one of the bright spots in the Las Vegas Raiders’ passing game. However, the connection that the 26-year-old has had with Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t translate to Aidan O’Connell.

O’Connell went to Davante Adams more in his first NFL start as his security blanket. Nonetheless, Meyers did get a few looks his way, but it wasn’t the same production without “Jimmy G.”

So how did Meyers do in the 24-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers? Here’s the latest weekly update on Meyers.

No Jimmy Garoppolo, no party for Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers

Meyers didn’t see much action in Week 4, tallying two receptions and 33 receiving yards on four targets. It’s a drastic drop in the production that many have grown used to seeing from the former New England Patriots wideout.

There was a moment in the game where Meyers would have had a major gain after O’Connell threw the ball into heavy coverage. Although Meyers miraculously came up with the catch, the play was wiped out as he was called for offensive pass interference. It wasn’t the best afternoon for the North Carolina State product.

Despite a tough Week 4, there’s good news for Meyers on the horizon as Garoppolo has cleared the concussion protocol and will start against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football at Allegiant Stadium. So, expect better production from Meyers.

Packers could bring problems to Raiders’ passing game

Las Vegas’ offense couldn’t capitalize last week when facing a Chargers passing defense that’s been struggling. Through four weeks, Los Angeles has allowed 1,199 passing yards and seven passing touchdowns. Only the Chicago Bears passing defense is statistically worse, so it was a missed opportunity by the Raiders.

Now, with the Packers, the Silver and Black’s air attack will be more challenging. Green Bay’s defense has only given up 789 passing yards this 2023 NFL season. Furthermore, the Packers have surrendered just four passing touchdowns.

It could be back-to-back weeks that Meyers has a quiet night unless Jimmy G and the Raiders passing game decide to break out. The game is on primetime, which could serve as a motivational factor.

This game against the Packers is the moment where Las Vegas can dig themselves out of their 1-3 hole and turn their season around. However, another possibility is that the Raiders fall to 1-4 and offload players such as Adams before the NFL trade deadline on Oct. 31st.
