NFL Network Predicts Raiders Schedule

From 2003 to 2015 the Oakland Raiders could only manage 63 wins. The Raiders were a team dubbed “The Team of the Decades”, yet for over a decade, winning and excellence shown on the field were a rare achievement. When the two most consistently good players on a team are the kicker and punter, wins will undoubtedly be hard to come by.

However, this narrative appeared to change in 2016. A miraculous Week 1 win over the New Orleans Saints kick-started what was a 12-4 season that ended the Raiders’ long playoff drought. This was the first time since 2000 that the Raiders amassed 12 wins and it was the first double-digit winning season since 2002. Needless to say, success was far from the norm in the East Bay.

Opinion: Mocking Raiders age is infantile, low-hanging fruit

The mocking of Jon Gruden’s old-ass Raiders knows no bounds. Sure, it’s all quiet on the front now, but as July 23 approaches — the day rookies report to training camp in Napa — the hackneyed “If you’re old, Gruden wants you” will accelerate at an exponential rate.

The underlying theme under the ridicule is the concern that Oakland’s aged roster won’t serve the team well — at all. They’ll wear down, they’ll be out of breath, they’re just not as fast and exuberant as younger cats.

Derek Carr

Derek Carr and Jon Gruden “off to a terrific start”

In the three seasons Gruden and Gannon shared together, Gannon threw for over 10,000 yards, 79 touchdown passes and Oakland made the playoffs each year with this duo. Prior to joining the Raiders, Gannon’s top season was less than stellar as he only managed 2,305 yards through the air with ten touchdown tosses and six interceptions.

With a tough-love coaching style, Gruden was able to help lead Gannon on the path of his most productive years in the NFL. Now, Gruden will oversee an offensive attack that already boasts an MVP-caliber quarterback in Carr.

Opinion: Will Pressure Crumble Gruden Instantaneously?

It has now been over four months since Jon Gruden rejoined the Oakland Raiders as its latest head man. After a well thought out free agency period the Silver and Black was retooled with some questionable aging veterans.

Then came a risky three days in Jerry’s World during draft weekend. And of course, the impending move to Las Vegas that is still on everyone’s mind. It has led to a few analysts conjuring the topic of whether the 100 million dollar man is worth it

Quick Slants: Gruden isn’t going to let Amari get Cooped up

Jon Gruden has been singing the same tune about Amari Cooper from the get-go: Coop is going to be the top weapon in our aerial attack.

The boss man is intent on not letting the former No. 4 overall pick get cooped up like he was last year.

From the minute Gruden was brought back to captain the Oakland Raiders, he’s waxed poetic about No. 89. The consistent sentiment rang true again during an exclusive conference call between the head coach and season ticket holders.

Another One Bites The Dust? Four Raiders Who Might Not Be Back In ’19

Raiders head coach Jon Gruden appears to be tongue in cheek serious about his comments in getting the Raiders back to their 1998 offense. A key to Oakland’s offense the last few years has been wide receiver Michael Crabtree, however, he has moved on and the team has added Jordy Nelson and Martavis Bryant. Also new to the team is tight end Derrick Carrier as well as Doug Martin and Keith Smith to the backfield.

The new changes are strikingly similar to the 1970’s George Allen led Washington Redskins and their “Over-the-Hill-Gang.” With an aging team and contracts also playing a factor for others, certain players may not be around beyond the 2018 season.

Raiders: Longshot Lamur? Not so fast…

Lamur has a little bit of an edge. It was during the Cincinnati Bengals’ 2014 campaign Lamur, an undrafted free agent in 2012, seized the weakside linebacker starting spot for Guenther’s defense and produced a career year (92 total tackles, two interceptions, and seven pass deflections). Using his unique blend of size and speed, Lamur was the most disruptive front seven defender against the pass.
