Straight Into Raiders’ Booster Clubs

This week’s episode starts with a very short look at updated Las Vegas Raiders news. We quickly jump into an interview with booster club master and homegrown Raider analyst Peggy Holmes, who organized Raiders booster clubs and tailgates for a few decades before retiring from the grind last year.

First, she points out the differences in booster clubs during Al Davis’ lifetime, and since he has passed away. Davis considered the clubs essential to the lifeblood of the team. Since Davis’ death, the organization has decided to focus on other priorities.

Defensive Insight

We then turn Holmes’ attention onto the defense. She is not a fan of the Gus Bradley hire as defensive coordinator and considers it an example of the organization’s dysfunction in regards to that side of the ball. Also, she points out that Bradley is unable to produce a top defense without excellent players. She later explains why she thinks that this is an Achilles heel in his coaching repertoire.

Holmes goes in-depth as to why Derek Carr is not the Raiders’ problem. She relays that the Las Vegas defense has been so bad that the offense must play perfectly in order to come out with a victory. This is not a sustainable way to build a winning football team.

She pleads with the Silver and Black to get a “beast” of a defensive tackle. With that tackle, the Raiders can start building the defense from the front to the back. The Raiders have unsuccessfully been trying to build from the back to the front.

Gruden’s Future

Holmes believes that 2021 could be head coach Jon Gruden’s last year with the team. She believes he is on the proverbial hot seat if the team does not make the playoffs. Homer and T3 then weigh in and share their takes. While Heidi’s take did not make the show, she believes he has up to two years. If 2021 is a disaster, he will be terminated.

We wrap up the show with a closer look at Al Davis. Holmes believes that Davis did act as a true general manager, and after his death, his replacements have been lacking. She pointed out two examples where his successors failed. Holmes sees such poor decision-making as representative of what we miss in Davis.
