Raiders’ Derek Carr Continues To Be Disrespected By National Media

In what looks like an annual ritual, the disrespect for Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr continues.

It has become the norm to see the Raiders take a signal-caller in every ‘early’ mock draft even though Carr has statistically been the best since Rich Gannon. It never appears to be easy for ‘4’ when it comes to earning respect. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback led the franchise to their sole playoff appearance since 2003 back in 2016. The numbers don’t lie in the case of Carr, he’s regularly one of the more efficient quarterbacks in the NFL yet he’s continuously overlooked and seen as ‘above average.’ In fact, every offseason the Raiders are linked to a plethora of quarterbacks, Tom Brady, Marcus Mariota, and most recently, Aaron Rodgers.

If big-name NFL signal-callers aren’t enough, college prospects are linked to the Silver and Black each offseason. We all know that the team’s brass does their due diligence every offseason. This is nothing new, even if the Raiders don’t plan to draft quarterbacks, they’re possible future opponents so there’s that. As far as the 2022 NFL draft, it’s far too early to be predicting picks. However, some have Las Vegas taking a quarterback, to no one’s surprise.

Who are the Raiders drafting in 2022?

According to Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports, Las Vegas will be selecting USC Trojans quarterback Kedon Slovis at ninth overall. The fact that the team’s picking at number nine shows that the national media believes the team will be picking in the top ten. The six-foot-two sophomore quarterback has thrown 47 touchdowns and 5,423 passing yards the past two years.

“The Raiders need a lot of things — and maybe the ’21 draft class will solve some of those issues — but it’s only a matter of time before Jon Gruden succumbs to the allure of a new QB.” – Wilson on the prospect of Jon Gruden drafting a quarterback
Interestingly enough, Sporting News believes that the Raiders will also be picking in the top ten next year. Nevertheless, they believe the team’s brass will go for LSU’s cornerback, Derek Stingley Jr. We still have to wait to see how the 2021 season pans out, but make no mistake, Carr’s leading this franchise for the foreseeable future.

  1. This team has a lot of issues starting with a dumb owner and incompetent front office and coaching staff. But QB isn’t one of them.

  2. Exactly and Amen! Previous commenter has it right on the money. Carr is and has been a rare non-problem! As a matter of fact, Carr has been one of very few in the mix to not attribute blame to many and various others whom most definitely are at least partially to blame: If one wants to play the blame game. I don’t. I’m tired of it. The prognosticators analysts and article enticers? Who cares? Not me, anymore. For the first time I think the Raiders have drafted for need from start to finish. I also think they executed well in free agency. And that most certainly includes Kenyan Drake. I like Gruden and Mayock better than Mckenzie and Del Rio. Even though I was butt hurt bad by the jettisoning of Mack. I’m over it. Mayock makes sense. The picks made sense. I’m all in. The Raiders have many fans who aren’t the most football (as a game) savvy people in the universe. Not a criticism. Fact. The players like Carr. He is positive. He is a leader. He is a mentor. Most of all he is an extremely hard worker as well as loyal. It is easy to lay the blame at the Quarterbacks feet. Football is a team sport. Carr will shine this year.

  3. Dan OConnell

Derek Carr is great leader and the Gruden is at best a middle of the road coach.

  4. The Raiders would’ve been an 11 or 12 win team last year had their defense not lost games near the end or on the last drive!

  5. Armando I Gomez

I think Carr will do better this year give him a chance to prove himself he’s still green behind the ears.l trust him i got fate.
