The Silver and Black roster looked far more competitive this preseason than the one we watched last season. A mind-blowing 42 members of the current roster are Dave Ziegler draft picks or signings. Ziegler and McDaniels deserve their fair share of credit for the strong start to the preseason. But based on the current betting lines, perhaps those two seats are warmer than anyone anticipates.
The Las Vegas Raiders have been on a tear to start the 2023 NFL Preseason. The team secured a 34-7 victory last weekend vs. the 49ers, an outcome that was never in question. Josh McDaniels and Co. followed it up with another 34-point outburst in Week 2 vs. the Rams. Fox Sports’ Colin Cowherd is starting to buy in.
Josh McDaniels and Co. sent a resounding message to Raider Nation this past weekend. A good old-fashioned beatdown of the San Francisco 49ers got the 2023 football season off to a hot start. Granted, it is only the first game of the preseason; this is true. But even with most starters sitting out — the Raiders still asserted their dominance all afternoon.
The Raiders hit the ground running on Sunday vs. the San Francisco 49ers with a 34-7 blowout in the team’s preseason opener. Head coach Josh McDaniels got inspired effort out of his young players and some veterans competing for a roster spot. The energy on defense paved the way, with fourth-rounder Aidan O’Connell flexing serious potential at quarterback.
Training camp is typically a boring couple of weeks for casual NFL fans, serving as nothing more than a tease for “real” football. But as for the diehards of the sport, the offseason workouts can be just as exciting as a regular season matchup. For the Raiders and Niners, camp has been anything but boring.
The Las Vegas Raiders offense boasted a solid stint in Year 1 of the Josh McDaniels era. The unit ranked 12th in scoring and 11th in yards. After an offseason of significant upheaval on that side of the ball, it will be interesting to see what the group looks like in McDaniels’ second season. It all begs the question: Will it be better? Or worse?
Despite witnessing considerable turnover on the roster, the Raiders are beginning to feel continuity per Josh McDaniels and Jakob Johnson.
